THE AMAZING RACE-Cadet Style
For the Sea Cadets
RCSCC 103 NIAGARA held The Amazing Race-Cadet Style exercise Saturday, 17 September-Sunday, 18 September 2011 for Niagara and Renown and Dundas! It was a great time.
Saturday and Sunday were organized differently, with Saturday following the TV show a bit more.
The cadets arrived on Saturday morning, ready to play! The cadets from three different corps were divided into 10 teams of 3 or 4 cadets. There was 36 kids participating plus the older kids and officers at each task. Each team was given a team name (taken from the names of the international signal flags!) and a coloured bandana!
Each team was allowed to carry a backpack with pen, paper, water bottle and whatever else they thought that they needed.

The teams were off!!
Clue 19 was given to each team in the order that they arrived at the pit stop.
Saturday evening, after the kids ate a good supper of bbq hamburgers and salad, the scores from the day were given out. Yay! The kids had a dance then unrolled their sleeping bags for bed.
SUNDAY: A slideshow was presented to inform everyone what was happening. Five teams did orienteering and biathlon while 5 teams did the race and in the afternoon they switched. The biathlon was shooting and running with scores for accuracy in the shooting.
The race involved heading out from the corps’ building relying on a compass bearing and slight clue. They looked for and find a hidden box. All boxes were located in Coronation Park. Each box contained semaphore letter tiles and a clue and a bearing/instructional card. The cadets retrieved one semaphore letter tile and placed it in their bag. They read the clue and bearing/instructional cards and proceeded to find the next box. There was total of five hidden boxes in the park.

After finding all boxes, cadets were instructed by clue to complete activities at four stations. The first station was calisthenics. Each member of the group completed: 15 push-ups, 15 sit-ups and 15 jumping jacks. Cadets received a semaphore letter tile and clue upon completion.
The 2nd station was shooting with a water gun and marshmallows,
the 3rd station was a 10 question verbal quiz,
the 3rd station was a 10 question verbal quiz,
the 4th station was first aid where two team members had to carry another member on a stretcher down the length of the parking lot and back.
After completing each station, the cadets received one semaphore letter tile similar to that found in the boxes and another clue. After all stations were completed, the cadets were instructed by clue to head to the pit stop where they had to decipher the semaphore signals and rearrange the tiles to complete the phrase: Bravo Zulu. Once the tiles were placed in the correct order, the teams finished the race.
For the afternoon, the teams that did the race switched and did the biathlon and orienteering and the other way around.
The teams received bonus points for sportsmanship behaviour, being extra polite, encouraging their team mates. They received penalty points for not following directions, being rude, complaining.
